I am a man in a new course of life. I dream of becoming an international author. A native speaker of Indonesian, I aspire to publish in English.
My first novel, Malula, was published in Indonesian language in Indonesia in 2010. Despite its well reception by Indonesian readers, Malula could not go on to a second print due to the publisher’s poor management. The small publisher went bankrupt in 2011. They haven’t even paid me any royalties. My dream of paying my father’s debts using the royalties vanished into thin air.
Sad, of course. But I moved on. I realized the most important reason why I write. Like an ant who wishes to erect the castle of humanity, through writing I want to seize the unlimited opportunities to learn, fulfil my unquenchable thirst and everlasting passion for literature, and share my thoughts to international audience the way Kahlil Gibran, Pramoedya Ananta Toer, Jalaluddin Rumi, Khaled Hosseini, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Mario Vargas Llosa, and Paulo Coelho do. Clearly if life must have a mission, then mine is to illuminate the heart of humanity through literature.
In February 2014 I completed my first English novel project, ‘The Disciple’. The manuscript is now undergoing an appraisal. Still with Nasheva as the protagonist, a sequel of The Disciple is called The Sufi; it is being written and is due to finish by the end of 2015. Nasheva Trilogy will complete with The Wayfarer, due in 2016.
A new version of Malula is set to complete in 2018, while Ahmad follows suit in 2019. My other book projects are The Tiger (due in 2020), The Roads Trilogy that are due in 2021, 2023, and 2025, and Garuda in 2027, respectively. No longer interested in publishing with a small house or self publishing, I am now aiming for one of the big players: HarperCollins, Penguin, Random House, or Bloomsbury, so I can reach the international audience like I have always wanted.
I am now in search of a literary agent to represent me and assist me to achieve my dreams and fulfil my mission.
