The Most Tragic Experience of Life

You think the day he gives you his terrifying smile

is the day of parting with the world.

But it is actually the day of gathering with the angels.

You think the day he knocks on the door to your soul is the end of life,

But it is actually the beginning of another life.

You think he is the greatest enemy of life,

But he is merely a reliable messenger of Life

Who wants to remind you that you are no one

but a wayfarer on the road of life.

In a sacred communion,

he shakes your hand and introduces himself as ‘Death’.

At once you think that your acquaintance with death

is the most tragic experience of life.

But death is not the most tragic experience of life

For the most tragic experience of life is

what is dying inside us while we remain living.

  1. Mmm. Good thoughts. Reminds me of that quote by Oscar Wilde: “To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.”

  2. so true…
“But death is not the most tragic experience of
    life
For the most tragic experience of life is
what is dying inside us while we remain
    living.”
these lines are so powerful, which makes me to live this moment, makes me to think”atleast don’t die when you are alive”

    your blog is awesome

    • Hi Ian, thank you, if you love this post, please share so you can become the moon that reflects Light and keep Love in its full circle. May the Light of Love perpetually shine in your heart, Ian ♥

  3. death is just as much a part of life as birth. it is sacred, too. like you say here, the true tragedy is when that which should be flourishing is dying – the Light of Love, a term you’ve introduced me to.

  5. I somehow missed reading this one before so am indebted to the many who delve back into archives and bring things to my attention. The last sentence is a powerful finish to your poem.

  6. very very very beautiful
    deep understanding about the Death.
    When Death meets, Say Hello
.while leaving the world, say Remember.
You beautifully narrated the lines of Death.
I wish you all the best and a beautiful happy and prosperous life
    with regards

  10. There once was a TV show that was about several angels visiting earth, and one of them was the Angel of Death. But the form was that of a man, a man wanting to help, a guide. We will not know what is on the other side until we ‘get there’. So I think making heaven on earth while living is a good goal. :)

    • Hi Jules, yes, that is true, you are totally right. Thank you for your kind words. And I have just sent you the package today. The postman said it will reach you within 7-10 days. Hope you’ll enjoy the tea. :-)

  11. Death….
    a tragedy for the living…heart-breaking…
Life for us must go on….with memories remains..

  12. Subhan the ultimate truth of life is our last day on this planet and not “what is dying inside us while we remain living”.
    Cheers you are wise.

    • Sorry I meant the other way around :) The ultimate truth is NOT our last day but “what is dying inside us while we remain living”.
      Cheers!

      • Hi Dilip, thank you very much for your kind words. You are one generous soul. Many blessings and much love to you. :-)

  14. Loved your wise closure Zein; living-dead should be feared most….death isn’t frightening & as Hellen K. best describes it: “Death is no more than passing from one room into another. But there’s a difference for me, you know! because in that other room I shall be able to see.”

    • I loved the quote by Hellen Keller. Thank you for sharing that, Mira Jay. You are one generous soul. Many blessings and much love to you. :-)

  15. Beautiful words, beautiful thoughts and beautiful truth,
Yes, death is only the next step , the transition to another form of existence, In a world of a loving creator, why would death not be profoundly beautiful.?..
I hope the journey you refer to is one of deep understanding and fulfillment, wherever it takes you.,

    • Yes, Valerie, you are right. Thank you very much for your lovely words that are very much profound and insightful. Many blessings and much love to you. :-)

    • Salam Mas Luhur,

Maaf yah, balasnya telat sekali, maklum. Sudah bisa post saja saya sudah syukur. Hehe. Anyway, semoga bermanfaat.

      Salam hangat,

    • Thank you very much, Ronny. I am humbly thankful. Your words are true reflection of your pure soul. May happiness reside in the realm of your heart. Many blessings and much love to you. :-)

  16. My mother passed away last month. I was her home hospice care nurse for last 6 weeks of her sudden, unexpected and rapid explosion of cancer. I was astonished at despite the haze or morphine and having one foot in death she remained as long as she could and communication her love as best she could. Half an hour after she died a tear formed and fell from her left eye. I am convinced there is a link to the other side after this personal experience.

    • I am sorry, Carl. I hope you are feeling better. I am sure your mother must be in the perfect place at the moment, full of serenity and the love she deserves for all the good deeds she did while she was living. And with the devotion that you paid to him when she was alive, I believe that she must be in the true sense of happiness when everything is pure light and joy.

Thank you again for commenting, many blessings and much love to you. :-)

  17. Such depth of thought, Subhan. I tried to think of my son ,my mother, my best friend…others I have lost and think of the indescribable pain I feel every day without them. I have always wondered if death, even heaven or an after life is simply the absence of pain. Very nice work! beebeesworld

    • Hi Beebe, thank you very much for your kind words. Apparently those are the mysteries of life that remain unanswered while we are living. Thank you for imparting your wisdom, and I wish you a wonderful day full of happiness. Many blessings and much love to you. :-)

  18. Such a powerful entry. Wow. I love:
“But death is not the most tragic experience of life
For the most tragic experience of life is
what is dying inside us while we remain living.”

You have summed up so much in those lines. Thank you. I love this blog. I enjoy your writing tremendously.
    Millie

    • Hi Millie, I am humbly thankful. I hope the rest of my posts are not disappointing. Thank you for sharing your kind words that have become the light in the darkness of my soul. They are very meaningful for me to accompany me in the journey that I have been embarking for nearly a year. Thank you again, you are one generous soul.

Many blessings and much love to you. :-)
