Pantun – A Great Delight

Hello my friend,

It’s Pantun time again! Yes, that’s right. :-)

What?  You’re new here and don’t know what a Pantun is? Don’t worry, my friend; that’s totally fine.

My previous Pantun,  Your Heart is My Favorite Playgroundgives you a brief introduction of what a Pantun is. So if you need some background information on this form of literary work, you’re just a click away.  :-)

And to give you a much bigger picture to the genre, my other Pantuns,  In My Heart Your Name is Beautifully Crafted and A Hug From My Heart are there for your delight.

In addition to the introduction I’ve provided in Your Heart is My Favorite Playground, I’d like to give you some more information on a fundamental aspect of Pantun.

It’s its form, or the structure.

I know, I know. You may not like form; it puts limitations to our creative minds, it’s a dull expression of literature, it’s a character strongly associated with old literature and not modern one, blah blah blah.

Yet, my friend, for a Pantun, its form is its beauty. Without a form, a Pantun is both formless and meaningless.

While you may have known that a Pantun rhymes with a-a-a-a or a-b-a-b, bear in mind that the first two lines are the preamble. The last two lines?  They’re the essence of the Pantun. A Pantun reciter conveys the message through the last two lines. In short, they give an intro in the first two lines, but speak the truth in the last two lines.

So they’re you go. It’s not that difficult, is it? Now, I could feel you may want to have your hands on this. If you feel the inclination, please have a go. Those who could write a Haiku, I’m sure they could write a Pantun as well. :-)

My Pantun for this occasion is called “A Great Delight”.

Yes, you’re right. Absolutely. Hasie’s brilliant art gives another company to my work. Our collaboration has been tremendously great that we both cannot wait for the year to pass until we could finally have more than 100 pantuns for a Pantun Anthology. More on her works? Please visit: www.kofegeek.wordpress.com and www.kofeart.wordpress.com. Seriously, every second you have there is time worth-spending.

And the Pantun? Oh, here it is:

Hiding behind the clouds, the moon was out of sight

But the starry sky still made it a lovely night

To see your amicable smile truly makes my day bright

And  to see your gorgeous face is a great delight

  4. The Pantun poet’s passion
a fire of beauty and youth.
    The softer flame of wisdom
    longs for beauty and truth.

Enjoy the passion, find the wisdom.

      • Because you are also a writer you may appreciate my revision (and the need to do it ;-) )
I realized I missed the form abab. My prose is abcb, so I submit “Wisdom’s elder fashion” to replace c with b.

Alas it still has no music, but I chalk that up to my preference for prose over poetry.

        Be well.

Wow, that’s a great news. “The more the merrier” :). Then, the project will soon come to reality. I will curate this in my Serendipitous Delight page, if you don’t mind :). There, you’ll find writings mostly written by me (including some Pantun) and some wonderful posts by other friends: http://www.scoop.it/t/serendipitous-delight. All the best Mas :)
